For this kitchen renovation in Stockwell SW9, TipTop Builders transformed a tired, enclosed kitchen and living area into a bright, open-plan modern space.

Our team began by carrying out structural alterations, carefully removing the wall between the kitchen and living room to create a seamless open-plan layout. We installed new timber joists (50x200mm) securely fixed into existing masonry using Simpson Strong-Tie hangers, ensuring full structural stability. The new frame was plasterboarded and finished smoothly from the kitchen side.

Next, we focused on the flooring installation across the kitchen, hallway, and living room — approximately 45 square metres in total. We removed the old carpet, laid a high-quality underlay, and installed beautiful engineered oak herringbone flooring with matching white beading along the skirting to complete the look.

The kitchen refurbishment included full demolition of the existing units, worktops, and wall tiles. After preparing the walls, we tiled the splashback area, applied grout and silicone, and installed brand-new shaker-style top and base cabinets. We fitted doors, drawers, handles, décor panels, and plinths, ensuring every detail was perfectly aligned.

Our electricians adjusted the wiring to match the new kitchen layout, installed fused sockets for all appliances, and fitted a selection of modern ceiling, wall, and under-cabinet lights. We also added a heat alarm, spotlights, and a new exterior socket for convenience.

Plumbing works involved adjusting the existing pipework, installing a new sink and mixer tap, and connecting the dishwasher and washing machine.

Finally, we carried out decoration works across the kitchen, living room, and hallway — preparing walls and ceilings, applying undercoat, and finishing with two coats of durable emulsion paint. All interior doors and frames were repainted with satinwood, and bespoke carpentry elements were built to box in water and boiler pipes, creating a neat, professional finish.
